For a long time, I had no real sense of who I was. I had spent much of my life masking, adapting and trying to be what I thought I needed to be, without understanding why it was so difficult. Discovering that I have ADHD began the journey to making sense of some of this, and my own experience of person-centred counselling gave me the space to start understanding myself differently. After the pandemic, I also began to think more deeply about the kind of life and career I wanted to create. I knew I wanted my work to feel meaningful, but I never imagined that I would make it to university and graduate with distinction. Finding counselling has become a really important part of that journey, and now I have the privilege of offering others a space to explore who they are, in their own way.
What I bring to the relationship
I believe that the person sitting opposite me knows themselves in ways I never could, even when things feel all mixed up at the time they see me. My role is to bring knowledge, professional responsibility, curiosity and a willingness to really listen. Your role is to bring your experience. Together, we create something that couldn't exist in quite the same way with anyone else.
Alongside my private practice, I am a therapist within an addiction recovery service, where I work with clients experiencing complex and varied challenges, including addiction, trauma-related experiences, neurodivergence and difficulties in relationships including attachment. This experience has deepened my understanding of how interconnected our experiences can be, and how much there can be beneath the things we initially bring to counselling.
Continuing to learn
To me, becoming a counsellor means continuously engaging with the ever-changing landscape of mental health. I'm committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice so that I can keep growing alongside the people I work with. My supervisor and I work together as an important part of responsible therapeutic practice. It gives me somewhere to reflect on my work, challenge my thinking and make sure I'm offering clients the best practice I can.
A little of me
I grew up in Cyprus and spent some time travelling before settling in Glossop. My working life has taken me through some very different environments, from a casino to an NHS microbiology laboratory and a university innovation centre. I’m naturally curious about people and the different ways we experience the world. I love working with people from all walks of life, and I especially value those moments when someone feels able to bring a little more of themselves into the room. Outside of counselling, I’m happiest when I’m outdoors, exploring somewhere new or enjoying time with the people I love.
What matters to me
I believe people have an incredible capacity for growth when the right conditions exist around them. A therapeutic relationship can create the time and space to understand yourself more deeply. It’s your time, where you are at the centre. You bring your own map; I’ll walk alongside you for a while, with openness to where you’ve been, where you are now and where you might want to go.
